Viewed from the Esplanade, this is the view up Wellington Place.
We used to live in the back half of the big white semi-detached house in the upper centre of this photo.
I remember Dad one day had to drive his car up the grass path on the left (before the steps at the top were added) because the road was too slippery with ice and snow.
As you can see there is some shingle on the road following a storm.

Not one of the stormiest days seen on Sandgate Esplanade - but at least I have a photo of this one.
I remember days when the shingle was deposited over a foot deep on the road on some days, with waves splashing right over the top of the Coastguard Cottages in Sandgate.
